Most people shop Costco barrel saunas by the price on the sign. That doesn’t work, because the Costco page leaves out the warranty terms, the roof and the electrician. We mapped all 10 Costco outdoor saunas in our database to their maker, and 9 are Almost Heaven models with Harvia heaters that need a hardwired 240V circuit.

The short answer: Costco’s barrel saunas are made by Almost Heaven, the West Virginia brand owned by Harvia. The 2-person Arcadia was around $2,999.99 in warehouses on October 13, 2026, the cheapest name-brand electric barrel we found anywhere and about $1,500 below Almost Heaven’s own Salem. It is a good buy if you can handle curbside delivery, assembly and a licensed electrician.

Who makes Costco’s barrel saunas

Costco’s US outdoor sauna lineup is almost all Almost Heaven Saunas, founded in 1977 in West Virginia. Almost Heaven’s about page says it joined the Harvia family in 2019, so every Costco barrel ships with a Harvia heater. The New Haven listing puts it plainly: “Built in the USA. Backed by Harvia.”

The one outside brand is the Backyard Discovery Bennett cabin. On Costco Canada, we also found a Dundalk 4-person western red cedar barrel from Ontario, with a 4.5 kW Saaku heater, a different heater brand from the US bundles.

Costco SKUs carry their own names and “COS” model numbers. They are built by Almost Heaven, but their specs do not always match a model sold on almostheaven.com, so treat the comparisons below as closest matches, not twins. Read the full brand story in our Almost Heaven sauna review.

Every Costco outdoor sauna, mapped to its maker

Specs come from each Costco product page. Prices are labeled by source and date because Costco pages load prices by script and show none in the page text.

Price sources: the Warehouse Runner tracker for the Arcadia, Oasis and Escape, and the Ice Cold Tubs Costco guide for July 2026 prices. Morgan specs come from Garage Gym Reviews and third parties because Costco’s Morgan page would not load.

Two more Almost Heaven barrels show up in third-party Costco guides without a live Costco page we could find: the Duet 2-person ($3,299.99 in July 2026 per Ice Cold Tubs; $3,199.99 in an expired April 2025 Slickdeals post) and the Valkea 6-person ($6,299.99 in July 2026).

What is on sale right now? Costco’s current luxury outdoor saunas page shows only three traditional outdoor models: the Emerson, the Escape and the Bennett. The other product pages still load, but we could not confirm each one is buyable online today. Warehouse stock is a separate question: the tracker showed the Arcadia in stock at 123 of 322 warehouses on October 13, 2026.

Costco vs the closest Almost Heaven direct model

This is the question most buyers are really asking. Here are the closest matches by seats and heater size. Dimensions differ, so none is a confirmed one-to-one match.

Costco model Costco price Closest direct model Direct price (Oct 13, 2026) What differs
Arcadia 2P around $2,999.99 Salem 2P from $4,485 regular (from $4,036.50 on sale) Same 78 x 47 in footprint; Arcadia is 6 in taller outside
Morgan 4P around $4,399.99 (Jul) Pinnacle 4P $7,575 regular ($6,060 sale) Pinnacle is 78 x 71 in vs Morgan’s 72 x 72 in
Vista or Emerson 6P around $6,300 to $6,400 (Jul) Princeton 6P $8,932 regular Princeton is a longer, narrower barrel (72 x 95 in vs 82 x 82 in)
Escape 6P cabin around $6,999.99 (last known) Allegheny 6 cabin $10,722 base Allegheny price from a Sun Home article

The pattern is clear. Costco’s versions run roughly $1,500 to $3,700 below the closest direct model’s regular price, and still about $1,000 to $1,700 below sale prices where a sale was running. In return, you get fewer heater and control choices, no Quick Ship or pro installation, and curbside-only delivery.

What is included, and what is not

Per the Costco pages, every model includes the heater with stones. Several add LED mood lighting with a remote, and the Vista, Emerson, Escape and Oasis list a bucket, ladle and thermometer.

Retailer Sauna Marketplace’s packing list for a Costco barrel crate includes staves, a drain stave, filler staves, end panels and benches, a glass door assembly, bands and cradles, the heater with stones, a heater fence and sensor guard, two backrests, and a bucket, ladle and thermometer.

Not included, per Sauna Marketplace:

  • A floor kit
  • A roof (the Ripley is the only Costco barrel that lists a cover, which it calls a “rain jacket”)
  • Installation or electrical work

Budget for the extras. A DIY gravel pad runs $300 to $800, a concrete slab $800 to $2,500, and an outdoor 240V run $1,500 to $3,800 or more, per retailer Topture. See all the line items in our home sauna cost guide and pad options in our sauna foundation guide.

Delivery and assembly

Costco’s terms are simple, and strict.

  • Shipping is included. Delivery is curbside, a signature is required, and the carrier calls to schedule.
  • Estimates run 2 to 4 weeks. Several models ship “Direct from Manufacturer,” meaning Almost Heaven ships them.
  • The limit is 2 per membership. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico pay extra or are excluded.
  • The Sierra page says delivery is box-to-curb only: no backyard delivery, no assembly and no packaging removal.
  • Sauna Marketplace says liftgate offload is excluded on cabins and larger barrels.
  • The Bennett is the exception, with threshold delivery inside the front door or garage.

Plan on about 6 to 8 hours of assembly for two people on a barrel, per a Care Focus Daily owner summary, and 4 to 8 hours with 2 to 3 people for the Escape cabin. Inspect the crate before you sign: Sauna Marketplace’s support data lists hidden shipping damage found after signing a clean receipt as a common barrel problem.

Warranty: read Almost Heaven’s, not Costco’s

No Costco sauna page states warranty terms. They link to “Manufacturer’s Warranty Information” or say to contact Costco. So the terms that matter are the maker’s.

The Almost Heaven warranty:

  • Limited lifetime on the sauna room against manufacturing defects
  • Harvia heater: 1 year on the heating elements, 5 years on other heater parts
  • Non-transferable, contiguous US only
  • Excludes normal weathering, improper assembly, weather events and electrician costs

The tracker listing for the Oasis summarizes it as “limited lifetime sauna room; 5-year heater.” The Backyard Discovery Bennett is different: its Costco page lists a 5-year comprehensive warranty covering heater, structure and hardware.

Costco’s return policy for saunas

This is where you should make a phone call before you buy. Costco’s product pages say items can be returned to any of its 800+ warehouses under its “100% satisfaction guarantee,” but also that “certain items are not available for return or refund or may have limitations.” None of the sauna pages has item-specific return text.

Third-party guides disagree. Sauna Marketplace says saunas are not on Costco’s 90-day list, so the general guarantee applies. InHouse Wellness says early defects are covered for “roughly the first 90 days,” with freight pickup included, and Care Focus Daily refers to a 90-day window. Confirm the current terms with Costco for your item number.

Heat and electrical

All Costco barrels are hardwired. The 6 kW models (Arcadia, Morgan, Sierra) need a 240V 30A circuit, the 8 kW models (Vista, Emerson, Ripley) need 40A, and the Bennett’s 9 kW heater needs 50A. Use a licensed electrician, and check with your local building department because a permit may be needed.

The Arcadia’s listing text says 165F to 180F in about 30 to 45 minutes, and owner summaries say about 30 minutes. Cold weather is the caveat. Sauna Marketplace describes a 6 kW barrel that would not pass about 150F in mid-20s F weather. If you live where winters stay below freezing, the 4-person Morgan and Sierra are the ones to think hardest about, since they put a 6 kW heater in a bigger barrel. Our barrel sauna guide walks through the heater math.

What Costco barrel owners report

Costco listings showed zero member reviews on every sauna page we checked, so there is no Costco rating to cite. Owner themes come from third-party summaries and Almost Heaven’s own reviews.

Praise:

  • Arrived intact and heats in about 30 minutes (Care Focus Daily)
  • Cedar quality and fit, and fast replacement parts from Almost Heaven
  • One owner reports even graying after 3 years with one reseal

Complaints:

  • Confusing instructions; owners turned to YouTube
  • A glass door that fogs
  • No winterizing guidance
  • Instructions not specific to the model, which Garage Gym Reviews also noted on the Morgan
  • Door fit problems and stones packed too tight, per Sauna Marketplace’s support data

These are thin sources. Care Focus Daily is a synthesis, and Sauna Marketplace is a competing retailer. Treat them as patterns, not ratings.

  • Best overall: Arcadia 2-Person. Scores 8.9 on our rubric, tied with the Oasis cube for the top of the Costco lineup, and has the best stock and lowest price. It fits a couple.
  • Best for a small yard: Oasis 3-Person cube. Also 8.9, with multi-level benches and a 190F rating, but the tracker showed it at a single warehouse.
  • Best for families: Emerson 6-Person. It is on Costco’s current outdoor page, with an 8 kW heater on 40A. It scores 6.8 because our rubric rates an 8 kW heater as undersized for its volume and its price was not visible when we checked, which counts as missing data.
  • Skip if your panel is tight: Backyard Discovery Bennett. Its 5-year warranty and threshold delivery are good, but the 50A circuit is more than many homes have free.

Should you buy at Costco or direct?

Buy at Costco if:

  • You want a 2-person barrel and the lowest price (the Arcadia)
  • You like being able to see it in a warehouse and use Costco’s return process
  • You are fine with Almost Heaven’s standard 6 kW or 8 kW Harvia heater

Buy direct from Almost Heaven if:

  • You want a smart heater (KIP Smart, Spirit or Virta with Fenix control)
  • You want a specific door or window, or the USA cedar model your neighbor has
  • You want professional installation (from $1,400) or Quick Ship

Look elsewhere if:

  • You want a roof included and thicker staves. The SaunaLife Ergo E7 has 1.65 in thermowood staves and a roof kit, but the heater is extra.
  • You live in a cold climate and want insulation. Compare cubes and cabins in our outdoor sauna guide.

Safety

Saunas appear safe for most healthy adults, per Harvard Health, but heat raises your pulse by 30% or more. Talk to your doctor first if you have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, are pregnant, or take medication. Keep sessions to 15 to 20 minutes, never use a sauna alone or after alcohol, and drink water afterward.
